Genetic testing involves examining your DNA, the chemical database that carries instructions for your body's functions. Genetic testing can reveal changes (mutations) in your genes that may cause illness or disease. Genetic testing technologies vary widely in the type of variant detected and the scope of analysis. Cost-effective testing relies on the provider’s ability to select the right test for the clinical question. Whether or not you are the ordering clinician, you may ultimately be providing guidance based on the results of testing.
