Elaine Fan, M.D., M.S.
I am an attending physician and assistant professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine–Wichita. In 2023, I completed my Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship at the University of Utah/Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital. My passion for becoming a Pediatric Oncologist began in college after shadowing an inspiring Pediatric Oncologist, and it is incredible to see this dream come to fruition.
I am both amazed and humbled by how far I have come. Residency and fellowship taught me to take full ownership of my patients, care for them with compassion and empathy, refine my management skills, and build a solid foundation in primary care and Hematology-Oncology. I am grateful for the opportunity to have experienced consistent evidence-based practice from my attendings, engaged in team-based learning, and participated in laboratory research and quality improvement projects. These experiences ultimately inspired me to work in an academic teaching hospital like the University of Kansas Medical Center, where the vibrant intellectual environment pushes me to reach my full potential. I hope to leave a positive impact on the young trainees I encounter, just as my mentors have done for me.
Currently, with our pediatric tumor board, we present cases of childhood cancer and educate trainees, nurses, and providers on diagnosis and management in a multidisciplinary format. We strive to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based practices and promote the highest standard of patient care.
