Activity Description:

This session provides an overview of the most relevant updates from the 2025 American Heart Association Pediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) guidelines. Participants will gain a broad understanding of changes affecting pediatric CPR techniques, recognition and response to pediatric cardiac arrest, updated approaches to airway obstruction, and essential elements of high quality resuscitation.
The session also reviews key PALS revisions, including updated recommendations for medication timing during cardiac arrest, use of physiologic monitoring to guide resuscitation quality, and best practices for post–cardiac arrest care in infants and children. Emphasis is placed on translating these guideline updates into everyday clinical practice across both in hospital and out of hospital settings.

Target Audience: 

This course is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals involved in pediatric and adult congenital heart care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the major 2025 AHA updates to Pediatric BLS, including changes in CPR technique, airway obstruction management, and priorities for high quality resuscitation.
  • Summarize key changes in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) related to medication use, physiologic monitoring, and post–cardiac arrest management in infants and children.
  • Apply updated guideline recommendations to clinical practice to improve recognition, response, and outcomes in pediatric resuscitation across emergency and inpatient care environments.
