Identify and Manage Epilepsy in Primary Care

This course will introduce healthcare professionals and patients to a wide spectrum of new and established therapies for adults and children with epilepsy. Individualized approaches to treat epilepsy, including tailored drug and surgical therapies will be discussed. This course will provide insight and strategy to enhance the quality of life and cognitive function for people with epilepsy.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for practicing adult and pediatric neurologists and epileptologists, Neurology and Neurosurgery residents and fellowship trainees, as well as mid-level providers, nursing, Physician Assistants and other health care personnel engaged in epilepsy care. 

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic developments in the management of epilepsy
  • Describe the pharmacology and action of anti seizure medications (ASMs)
  • Review unique epilepsies including rare syndromes, diseases, neuro-cutaneous disorders, and autoimmune epilepsies
  • Discuss treating acute repetitive seizures and status epilepticus 
  • Review epilepsy surgery updates and techniques including neuromodulation and ablative procedures
