This lecture will focus on common types of precancerous and cancerous conditions. We will discuss risk factors and patterns of solar behavior for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma risk factors, adequate sampling of the melanoma skin lesion, and how to interpret pathology reports for melanoma, will also be discussed. The participant will be better equipped to recognize skin cancer, to interpret histologic data after biopsy, and to design treatment plans and/or make appropriate referrals for patients with precancers and cancerous skin conditions.
