Gabriel Rosanwo, MB, BS. FRCOG. FAAFP. FACOG

While studying at the United World College of the Atlantic, South Wales in the 1970s, Gabriel Boladele Rosanwo was privileged interact with fellow students from over forty different nations. A lot was learnt about diversity of cultures, economies and political structures. Subsequently he trained at the University College Hospital Medical School London, in an era which many have called the “golden age Medicine” when the right clinical decisions were made for the right reasons, regardless of finance or politics. After graduating from the University of London and while undergoing postgraduate OBGYN training in the National Health Service of Britain, in this era, it was clear that excellence in maternal and perinatal medicine could be achieved and maintained only by open and uncompromising monthly departmental morbidity and mortality meetings. This tradition of careful nation-wide audits has resulted in informative publications since 1952. It is with such frankness and precision that care during the childbirth process is managed. As member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of London Gabriel delivered the expected care to patients in the UK, West Africa and the western hemisphere between 1980 - 1994. Gabriel subsequently engaged in much travel with his family, which resulted in subsequent training, in what appeared to be the busiest Family Practice department in Ohio. After completing a full residency in Family Medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center Cleveland Ohio, Gabriel was offered a USA OBGYN residency experience at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit. OBGYN departmental award of academic excellence was given to him after this training there. Subsequently Gabriel engaged in OBGYN private practice in the USA. This practice was characterized by a combination of the best of UK Obstetrics and the best of USA Gynecology. As an OBGYN Hospitalist in more recent years I have been able to spend more time with my grandchildren and also pass on to the emerging cohort of OBGYN trainees skills that will sustain optimal maternal care.
