Pranav Loyalka
Dr. Pranav Loyalka is a nationally recognized leader in advanced cardiovascular care, currently serving as the Director of Structural Heart Disease for HCA Gulf Coast and the Fellowship Program Director for Cardiovascular Disease at HCA Houston Healthcare. Based in Houston, Texas, he specializes in structural heart interventions, advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.
A magna cum laude graduate in Biochemistry from Harvard University (1993), Dr. Loyalka earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 1997. He completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Tulane University, followed by fellowships in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was appointed Chief Fellow.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Loyalka has been integral to some of the nation’s leading cardiovascular programs. He previously held key clinical leadership roles at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital/Texas Heart Institute and Memorial Hermann Hospital, including Associate Chief of Heart Failure and Transplantation. Since 2018, he has led the interventional and structural cardiology service at HCA Houston Medical Center.
Dr. Loyalka holds multiple board certifications, including Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. He has also held academic appointments as Associate Professor at The University of Texas Medical School and is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine at both LSU Health Sciences Center and the University of Houston.
His research portfolio spans over two decades and includes principal and sub-investigator roles in more than 50 clinical trials, particularly in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral and tricuspid interventions, heart failure management, and mechanical circulatory support. He has collaborated extensively with medical device innovators like Edwards Lifesciences, Abbott, Medtronic, and Abiomed. He continues to serve as a national proctor for TAVR and other structural heart technologies.
Dr. Loyalka is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC). His contributions to education and clinical training have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Outstanding Interventional Cardiology Teaching Award from the Texas Heart Institute.
A prolific author, Dr. Loyalka has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, with notable work in areas such as percutaneous ventricular assist devices, valve-in-valve procedures, and innovative hybrid approaches for complex cardiac conditions. His work has contributed to evolving best practices in managing high-risk cardiac patients.
