Dr. Patel is an Associate Research Physician at NHLBI, which she joined in 2018 after completing her Hematology/Oncology fellowship in DC. Her clinical and translational research is focused on improving long term outcomes in patients with acquired marrow failure syndromes by addressing gaps in therapies. She leads many ongoing clinical trials in severe aplastic anemia including Ruxolitinib in relapsed/refractory marrow failures and early oral therapy initiation in SAA. Additionally, she has a particular interest in developing a predictive model to determine the overall outcomes of patients with aplastic anemia post immunosuppression using pre-treatment measures via machine learning with an aim to identify patients at highest risk of progression to myeloid cancer. Dr. Patel is also renowned for her ongoing work in VEXAS syndrome. She has developed a robust VEXAS clinical and translational program in Hematology Branch at NHLBI.
