Activity Description:

Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a drug that can help reduce bleeding and the need for blood transfusions in trauma patients. This activity, presented by Dr. Krista Turner, will discuss the utilization of TXA in traumatic scenarios. Discussion focusing on its many uses, when it should be administered for the trauma patient, and treatment protocols; as well as indications, benefits, and limitations of TXA in the pre-hospital setting.

Target Audience: 

Hospitalists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Advance Practice Nurses, Registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Physicians and Residents, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers.

  1. Identify when TXA should be administered in the pre-hospital setting.
  2. Describe benefits and limitations of TXA use to reduce bleeding in trauma patients.
  3. Recognize TXA treatment protocols in the pre-hospital setting.
