Activity Description:

This is a virtual CME-certified educational event designed to address the identified gaps related to reactions from environmentally borne insect stings or creature bites. The online format will allow for convenient access and thus reach a broad audience of medical professionals. Colorado’s weather affords ample opportunity for people, particularly children, to accidentally be exposed to a bite or sting from creatures sharing the same environmental playground. This makes it paramount for EMS providers to have the knowledge to respond and treat for this type of incident. By having the proper knowledge EMS may prepare for and anticipate when a seemingly benign appearing sting or bite has potential to turn into a life-threatening condition. This CME will assist pre-hospital providers with gaining knowing in identification, assessment and management of environmentally borne stings or bites.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize the common types of stings and bites in Colorado.
• Explain how the pre-hospital assessment can uncover the signs and symptoms or this type of medical complaint.
• Describe the pre-hospital management and recognize when higher level of intervention may be required.
