Elizabeth Hanna, APRN, DNP, PMHNP, AGACNP
Elizabeth Hanna, DNP, PMHNP-BC, AGACNP-BC is a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner and an obesity medicine specialist with a deep commitment to addressing the complexities of obesity and its impact on physical and mental health. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Utah (2019) and her Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Cincinnati (2024), further expanding her expertise in the intersection of obesity and mental health.
Elizabeth’s professional journey reflects a lifelong dedication to health and wellness. Prior to her clinical career, she earned a master’s degree in Health Policy from the London School of Economics (2002), where her dissertation focused on childhood obesity in OECD countries. This academic foundation led her to work in the UK as a researcher, food policy activist, and educator, advocating for systemic changes to improve children’s nutritional health. After returning to the US, she transitioned into nursing, gaining invaluable experience at the Veterans Affairs Hospital before becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
Elizabeth is passionate about empowering her patients to achieve sustainable health through personalized, evidence-based strategies that address the root causes of obesity. She believes in a holistic approach that integrates nutrition, lifestyle, and mental health, creating a supportive environment where patients feel inspired to make meaningful changes.
Beyond her clinical work, Elizabeth is a professor on the FNP program at Westminster University, and proponent of narrative medicine, which can help build bridges between patient and clinician, while reducing burnout amount healthcare professionals. When she is not at work you can find her writing (for fun or to advocate for policy changes related to health), at the gym with her daughters, or listening to podcasts at 1.5 speed while her husband tells her that it isn't a good way to wind down.
