BRCA CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

Shawn P. Fagan, M.D., FACS, is a renowned burn surgeon and critical care intensivist who joined Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America (BRCA) in 2015 as a staff surgeon at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, GA and currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer of BRCA.

Since graduating from the Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Fagan completed his general surgery residency and a two-year basic science research fellowship. Following completion of his residency, Dr. Fagan joined the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, where he practiced at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans’ Hospital. In 2005, he sought additional subspecialty training in the field of surgical critical care and pediatric burn surgery under the supervision of Dr. David Herndon at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Shriners’ Burn Hospital for Children.

He was recruited to the team at Sumner Redstone Burn Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Shriners’ Burn Hospital for Children in Boston in 2006. Shortly after, he was named the Medical Director of both burn centers. During his tenure as a surgeon, Dr. Fagan also served as an Assistant Professor at both the Baylor College of Medicine and Harvard University.

While at Sumner Redstone Burn Center in Boston, Dr. Fagan developed a telemedicine outreach program to extend burn care across the northeast. He also utilized a telemedicine-based rehabilitation follow-up program that resulted in significant cost savings for the hospital – a program that received the prestigious American Business Award. In addition, Dr. Fagan created and managed an ICU Clinical Fellowship program at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Fagan is a dynamic speaker and educator who has given more than 500 local, regional, national and international presentations in areas encompassing adult and pediatric burn care, ventilation, evidence-based research and more.
