Dr. Balderas, a native of the Rio Grande Valley, obtained his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in 2011. He then chose to return to the Valley and completed his internal medicine internship and residency at UTHSCSA-RAHC under the direction of James Hanley, MD. During his internship year, Dr. Balderas was voted Outstanding Intern of The Year and UTHSCSA Medicine Clerkship Intern of the Year. In his final year of residency, Dr. Balderas was voted Outstanding Resident of the Year and was awarded the prestigious Kleberg Foundation research grant. He then completed a cardiology fellowship at UTHSCSA under the direction of John Erikson, MD, where Dr. Balderas was voted Outstanding Fellow of the Year in 2016 and was given the title of Chief Fellow for the 2017-2018 academic year. He then completed an Interventional Cardiology fellowship under the direction of Steven Bailey, MD.

Since returning to the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Balderas has established himself as one of the regions leading cardiovascular specialist. He has been recognized by various newspapers and has been named Best of the Best cardiologist, multiple times over the last 7 years.

Over this timeframe Dr. Balderas has continued to expand the breath and complexity of his interventional practice. He is highly experienced in complex coronary interventions, and advanced peripheral vascular inventions, as well as limb salvage procedures.  His practice has developed into a regional referral destination, with patients and physicians seeking his expertise from throughout South Texas, extending from Roma to Brownsville and north to Corpus Christi.  He is frequently consulted for challenging cardiovascular and peripheral vascular cases and regularly see patients seeking 2nd and 3rd opinions regarding their underlying disease.
