Dr. Shiree A. Berry is a trauma and acute care surgeon with Extant Healthcare, serving as the Regional Trauma Medical Director for the Gulf Coast and the Trauma Medical Director at HCA Houston Northwest Medical Center. She is also an assistant professor of clinical sciences with the University of Houston’s HCA Kingwood General Surgery Residency Program and the HNW Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.

Dr. Berry is a native Houstonian who obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, California and then traveled to New York State to obtain her medical degree at Albany Medical College. She returned to Houston after being accepted into the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery Residency Program at Baylor College of Medicine where she rose to Chief General Surgery Resident. 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Berry holds key leadership roles within the ACS Committee on Trauma as Vice Chair for the South Texas Region. She is an active member of the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma and the National Medical Association. She also serves as Trauma Chair for the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council and Medical Director for its Injury Prevention Committee, where she leads regional trauma system development, injury prevention initiatives, and multidisciplinary advocacy efforts. Nationally, she contributes to HCA’s Clinical Resource Team; and locally serves on the HCA Houston Northwest Medical Executive Committee, where she previously chaired the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Berry is equally committed to community leadership, holding roles in organizations such as The Links, Incorporated; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; The Junior League of Houston; New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church; and the Albany Medical College Alumni Board. An alumna of the Houston Black Leadership Institute, she brings a broad civic perspective to her work. She is also an enthusiastic traveler who has explored six continents and more than 35 countries, finding her greatest joy in celebrating life’s moments with her daughter and family.
