Breast Cancer Awareness: Evidence in Action for Nurse Practitioners
LIVE IN-PERSON ONLY
Breast Cancer Awareness: Evidence in Action for Nurse Practitioners" will strengthen nurse practitioners' knowledge of current evidence-based guidelines for breast cancer screening, risk assessment, and early detection. Presenters, including a director of mammography and experienced RNs, will review recommended screening intervals, imaging options for patients with dense breast tissue or elevated risk, and best practices for interpreting and following up on abnormal findings. The activity will also cover strategies for patient education, shared decision-making, and timely referral to diagnostic and specialty care. Through case-based discussion, participants will learn to apply this evidence in their own practices to close screening gaps, reduce delays in diagnosis, and improve outcomes for patients across the Coastal Bend.
Target Audience
Nurse practitioners and other advanced practice providers in the Coastal Bend region who provide primary, women's health, or specialty care and are involved in breast screening, risk assessment, diagnosis, referral, or survivorship care.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify patients at average and elevated risk for breast cancer using current risk assessment tools.
- Apply current evidence-based screening recommendations, including considerations for dense breast tissue.
- Describe appropriate pathways for diagnostic follow-up, supplemental imaging, and genetic counseling referral.
