Dr. Mary Laird Warner is a board-certified specialist in critical care medicine, neurocritical care, and pulmonary medicine.  She practiced 25 years as a medical intensivist at Swedish Medical Center, where she founded the medical ICU and served as its first director as a closed unit.  She oversaw expansion from a 42-bed to 68-bed unit, the addition of neurocritical care and burn units, and the addition of neurocritical care and surgical critical care physicians.  Her clinical interests are in ARDS and in mechanical ventilation of patients with chronic respiratory failure, including those with spinal cord injury.  She has served as a site investigator for the ARDSnet and PETALnet.
