Dr. Jason Tanner is an emergency physician and wilderness medicine specialist who serves as the Medical Director for the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. He completed his emergency medicine residency and wilderness medicine fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine and holds both FAWM (Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine) and DiMM (Diploma in Mountain Medicine) certifications. With over 15 years of experience in technical mountain rescue, Dr. Tanner helps lead of one of Utah’s most active mountain rescue teams, supporting field responders and helping to improve medical decision-making in remote settings. His professional focus is on expanding the reach of medicine into mountains and other austere environments—bringing care to people where they are, and working to develop practical ways to deliver higher-level medical support in places traditional systems can’t reach.
