Behind Closed Doors Equipping Healthcare Professional Spot and Support Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence
This presentation is designed for healthcare providers and professionals to enhance their ability to recognize the dynamics of intimate partner violence (IPV) within their practice. Participants will gain critical insights into the signs of abuse, including physical, emotional, and psychological indicators that may otherwise go unnoticed. We will explore the impact of trauma on survivors and the importance of approaching IPV with a trauma-informed care perspective.This activity will also provide actionable strategies for creating safe, supportive environments for patients to disclose abuse. Attendees will learn best practices for conducting sensitive conversations, offering appropriate resources, and ensuring that safety planning becomes an integrated part of patient care. This training will cover legal and social support services available to survivors and how healthcare professionals can connect patients with these essential resources.By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the tools and knowledge to proactively address intimate partner violence in a healthcare setting, ensuring a comprehensive, survivor-centered approach to patient care.
