Colorectal Cancer: Incidence, Screening & Adenomas
This Grand Rounds session, presented in recognition of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, will examine current incidence trends of Colorectal Cancer among both younger and older patient populations. Presented in partnership by a colorectal surgeon and a gastroenterologist, the session will review evidence-based screening options, risk-based screening options, risk-based screening guidelines, the incidence and clinical significance of colon adenomas, and recognition of common and atypical symptoms. The speakers will also discuss survival differences between early and late stage disease and review current treatment approaches for colon and rectal cancer.
Target Audience
This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians, and residents.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Analyze current incidence and trends of colon cancer among both younger and older patients.
2. Summarize current colon cancer screening options and apply evidence-based.
3. Describe the incidence and clinical significance of colon adenomas.
4. Recognize the common and atypical symptoms associated with colon cancer.
5. Compare survival outcomes between early stage and late stage colon cancer.
6. Review current treatment modalities for colon and rectal cancer.
