There has been an increase in the healthcare field in regards to artificial intelligence (AI).  AI is a rapidly evolving field with uncertain value and potential risks. AI has the potential to improve profitability, reduce costs, and enhance patient care quality. The healthcare industry is facing challenges in data collection, normalization, and talent acquisition for AI implementation. This meeting will review and discuss the future of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Educational information will be provided regarding the impact AI has on coding and accurate documentation. There will be discussions on the connection between documentation, coding, and key quality metrics.

Target Audience

The intended audience is HCA Healthcare Southeast Medical Staff.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify rules regarding artificial intelligence algorithms and understand the role they play in the future of AI in healthcare.
  • Recognize the correlation between documentation and AI coding with patient outcomes and quality metrics.
  • Measure decreases in reported adverse patient outcomes, unanticipated complications from procedures, mortality, reoperation, and readmission.
