The Houston Environmental and Toxicological Emergency Responders (H.E.A.T.E.R.) Conference is intended to teach healthcare professionals, including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and EMS personnel, how to recognize and manage a variety of toxicological and environmental emergencies, including poisonings, envenomations, occupational exposures, drownings, burns, and substance use.
Target Audience
Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and EMS professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to select appropriate medication and correct dosage to treat alcohol withdrawal
- Identify snakebites that warrant treatment with antivenom
- Acknowledge the limitations of urine drug testing
- Recognize potentially serious exploratory ingestions in pediatric patients
- Effectively assess and manage both the local and systemic effects of thermal burns
