
Sepsis: Infections You Don't Want to Miss
Overview
This presentation will utilize case review to identify what infections can get practitioners into trouble and how to recognize and treat them early. Learners will review how to identify sepsis and what "missed opportunities" arise in specific cases where sepsis was not identified in a timely manner. Review of clinical best practices, such as the importance of serial vital sign collection, respiratory rates, thorough record-keeping, along with avoiding communication errors, cognitive errors, and discharge errors will be included.
Target Audience
This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians and residents.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Recognize failure to diagnose sepsis and common clinical scenarios.
- Summarize the importance of early recognition, treatment and follow up plan in sepsis care.
- Articulate which clinical situations warrant heightened vigilance.
