Activity Description:

This enduring course will explore the lifelong neurodevelopmental and quality of life challenges faced by many patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), highlighting key risk factors, evidence based surveillance practices, and interdisciplinary models of care to support developmental health. The course will also highlight practical strategies for integrating developmentally supportive care at the bedside and delivering family centered psychosocial support across the care continuum.

Target Audience

This course is designed for Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Nurses, and Allied Health Professionals involved in pediatric and adult congenital heart care.

  • Describe the neurodevelopmental impact of congenital heart disease (CHD) and review existing evidence regarding the long-term implications of CHD on developmental and quality of life measures
  • Identify key neurodevelopmental risk factors, including prenatal, perioperative, and socioeconomic challenges that may influence longterm developmental trajectories across the lifespan in patients with CHD
  • Apply evidence based neurodevelopmental interventions and surveillance strategies empowering all members of the interdisciplinary team to implement family-centered care practices to optimize developmental outcomes
