Advanced Concepts in Capnography

Capnography interpretation is a tool that EMS relies on heavily in the field. In this course, we will be reviewing basic capnography interpretation and using that to build into the advanced skills. Dr. Eric Hill will review best practices in capnography, techniques that has worked over the years for him as an emergency physician, and troubleshooting steps if your capnography is not working. Lastly, we will go over case reviews to help solidify the newly learned information.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of EMS providers.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what ETCO2 is and how CO2 is made in the body; 
  • Understand how the disease process affect ETCO2 readings; 
  • Explain the traditional uses and advanced concepts of capnography in the prehospital setting.
