Activity Description:

The learner will be updated on advances in treatment options for hip and knee arthritis.  This will include a detailed discussion on nonoperative measures that are currently in use.  This will also include a detailed discussion on operative treatment options.  Unique to the discussion on operative treatment options will be updates on surgical technique, same day discharge, and technology in total joint arthroplasty.  The learner should come away from this talk with a firm understanding of the spectrum of care offered to the patient presenting with hip or knee arthritis.  This will cover pre/early arthritic state to the patient that is ready to sign up for joint replacement tomorrow.

Target Audience: 

This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians and residents.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply treatment algorithm for nonoperative management of hip and knee arthritis.
  • Recognize the technical advances in surgical techniques for hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • Describe the role of technology in hip and knee arthroplasty today and where it is going in the future.
