Joseph Mueller, MD

Dr. Joseph Mueller is a six year veteran member of the HCA Mission Anesthesiology team and recently embraced the role of Chief of Anesthesiology and Facility Medical Director. He brings a vibrant, collaborative energy to this position. He has served in a variety of leadership and liaison roles in support of perioperative hospital initiatives. These include the Physician Advisory Board, Operating Room Charge Anesthesiologist, Enhanced Surgical Recovery Implementation and Departmental Liaison roles in support of Vascular, Trauma, Bariatric and General Surgery service lines. He is excited to further support his colleagues and the Mission Healthcare team in pursuit of service excellence.
Dr. Mueller attended the University of Notre Dame and Nebraska College of Medicine. He proudly served as a Navy Flight Surgeon in Quantico, Virginia with the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of this operational tour, he completed residency at Georgetown University Hospital where he remained on the transplant anesthesia team and served as an Assistant Professor and Associate Residency Program Director.
His hobbies include adventure tourism with his wife and four children. He is an avid hiker, fisherman, and enjoys boating, mountaineering and endurance races. Dr. Mueller is a strong supporter of area youth sports and nonprofit humanitarian efforts in the Western NC region.
