Robotic Surgery for Acute Care/Emergency Patients

Reviewing the evolving role of robotic surgery in the acute care/emergency setting is the focus of this presentation. While robotic surgery has gained significant traction in the outpatient/elective setting in the last decade, it has recently expanded to the inpatient setting as surgeons and hospital systems have become better prepared to address the needs of all patients. The talk is aimed at reviewing the benefits of robotic surgery and then highlighting, through case scenarios, the role and benefits it provides to the acute care patient.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the clinical benefits for patients for an Robotic/MIS approach.
  • Highlight examples of pathology/surgical cases that can now be approached robotically/MIS.
  • Provide a framework to allow all providers to better communicate robotic/MIS surgery to their patients.
