Perinatal Substance Use: What Social Workers & Mandatory Reporters Need to Know
MOMs+ is a part of CPCQC's IMPACT BH program and an extension of the work of the Colorado MOMs Initiative. It is a maternal overdose prevention program focused on helping birthing hospitals statewide provide equitable access to treatment and recovery for perinatal patients with substance use disorders, including connection to the patient and family, initiation of medication for opioid use disorder and treatment of other substance use disorders, and transition to outpatient treatment and recovery with community providers and resources. The MOMs+ Summit will be a time to meet in person with clinicians from the 10 pilot birthing hospitals, interact with the MOMs+ Team, collaborate together on shared barriers and opportunities, and review hospital implementation plans. We will also discuss key topics in perinatal substance use disorder treatment, including combating stigma, implementation of the new SuPPoRT Colorado Toxicology Testing Guidance, review of the update legislation on mandatory reporting related to substance-exposed newborns, integration of peer support services, and building strong referral networks.
Target Audience
The target audience will be clinicians from the 10 Colorado birthing hospitals participating in the MOMs+ program, including attendees from Boulder Community Health, Children's Hospital Colorado, Denver Health, Lutheran Medical Center, Montrose Regional Health, Parkview Medical Center, Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center, Rose Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, and Swedish Medical Center. Clinicians from these hospitals will include L&D nursing leaders, L&D provider champions, OB hospitalists, educators, quality improvement, behavioral health specialist, IT, pharmacy, social work, and peer support.
