Pediatric Growth Disorders

A growth problem means that a child falls either below or above the average range of growth for a child's age, sex, family history, or racial background. Disorders of growth is one of the more common conditions in pediatric endocrinology. Growth disorders can occur for many reasons, which may be hormonal in nature. Growth may also be affected by other factors including nutrition, steroid use, bone disease and a variety of other chronic illnesses.

Pediatric endocrinologists, adult endocrinologists, pediatricians, pediatric endocrine nurses, and pediatric nurses

Learning Objectives

  • Examine normal growth rates and patterns from abnormal growth to determine appropriate treatment of growth hormone deficiency.
  • Identify when growth hormone treatment is indicated in treating children with short stature
