Activity Description:
The purpose of the Peer Review CME activity is to provide physicians and other eligible medical staff members with a structured, case-based educational forum to critically evaluate patient care, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate lessons learned from peer review into safer, more consistent clinical practice. Educators will facilitate objective, evidence-based discussion of selected cases involving unexpected outcomes, complications, delays in diagnosis or treatment, failure to rescue, returns to the operating room, communication or documentation concerns, potential variation from established standards of care, and other significant patient safety events.
Target Audience:
This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians and residents.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:
- Evaluate clinical decision-making and patient care against current evidence and accepted standards of care.
- Recognize opportunities for earlier diagnosis, intervention, escalation, or consultation.
- Identify clinical, communication, documentation, and system factors that may contribute to adverse or unexpected outcomes.
