These courses are intended for internal hospital staff.

Activity Description:

This is a virtual CME-certified educational intervention designed to address the identified gaps related to potentially compromising conditions of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The online format will allow for convenient access and thus reach a broad audience of medical professionals. Deep vein thrombosis and or pulmonary embolism can strike people at any age, including those with an otherwise baseline health status. Vague symptomology often masks these potentially serious conditions, making it paramount pre-hospital providers know how to assess and manage these patients. This CME will review the risk factors and decision making process EMS should consider when encountering a patient suspicious for either condition and discuss new interventional treatments available to patients diagnosed with these conditions.

Target Audience:

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistance, Residents, Medical Students, Emergency Medical Services

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the risk factors for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
  • Describe the processes of clinical decision making for acute treatment for pulmonary embolism.
  • Discuss new interventional treatment for high-risk pulmonary embolism.
