These courses are intended for internal hospital staff.

Activity Description:

This is a virtual CME-certified educational event designed to address the identified gaps related to toxicological exposure and emergencies in the pediatric population. The online format will allow for convenient access and thus reach a broad audience of medical professionals. One of the most preventable EMS pediatric calls involves poisoning or toxic ingestions. The increased availability of over-the-counter (OTC) medications, under-the-counter (UTC) cleaning supplies and ilicit substance exposure makes it paramount for EMS providers to have the knowledge to respond and treat depending on toxidrome. This CME will assist pre-hospital providers with gaining knowing in identification, assessment and management of pediatric toxicological emergencies, natural or synthetic.

Target Audience:

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistance, Residents, Medical Students, Emergency Medical Services

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify high risk medications found in homes.
  • Develop an assessment process to recognize high priority signs and symptoms of an ingestion.
  • Discuss pre-hospital management of a toxicological emergency and recognize when higher level of intervention may be required.
