Activity Description:

This educational activity is designed to enhance understanding of airway control and maintenance options available to prehospital care providers. The session will review practical considerations and limitations faced by EMS professionals in the field, promoting greater awareness among hospital-based staff. Through shared discussion and direct interaction with EMS attendees, participants will strengthen interdisciplinary communication and collaboration. This activity supports improved coordination across care settings to optimize patient outcomes during airway management.

Target Audience:

This course is designed for anyone in healthcare that may interact with EMS personnel. Open to MD, DO, LVN, RN, NP, PA, EMT, AEMT, and Paramedics. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe scope of practice differences in airway control and maintenance among EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics.
  • Differentiate appropriate use of OPA, NPA, supraglottic airway, endotracheal intubation, and surgical airway options. 
  • Recognize limitations in airway control and maintenance across BLS, ALS, and MICU ambulance settings.
