Activity Description:
This Grand Rounds session reviews contemporary, evidence-based lipid management in patients with established coronary artery disease (CAD) and type 2 diabetes melitus-individuals classified as very high risk for recurrent atherosclerotic cardiovascular events. Emphasis will be placed on current recommendations, including LDL-C targets, intensification strategies beyond statin therapy, and management of residual cardiovascular risk to reduce morbidity and mortality.
Target Audience:
This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians and residents.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain why patients with CAD and type 2 diabetes are classified as very high risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular events.
- Implement guideline directed pharmacological approach to lipid lowering, including non-pharmacological therapies.
- Integrate management of residual cardiometabolic risk factors alongside lipid optimization to reduce recurrent cardiovascular events.
