Activity Description:
This is a virtual CME-certified educational event designed to address the identified gaps related to identification of patients who present with higher suspicion for surgical intervention. The online format will allow for convenient access and thus reach a broad audience of medical professionals. It’s often EMS is dispatched to respond to generalized sick cases. Equally common is the lack of availability for advanced diagnostic tools used by definitive care to identify when this sick case requires surgical intervention. This conundrum makes it crucial for EMS providers to have the knowledge and skill in using knowing what physical and assessment findings are more indicative for an impending surgical emergency . This CME will assist pre-hospital providers with gaining knowing in identification, assessment and management of patients presenting with a potential surgical emergency.
Target Audience:
CME activities are designed to serve the professional and educational needs of physicians. The target audience is Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Paramedics, Pre-Hospital Clinicians, Medical First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Air-Ground Ambulance Services, and Service Line Representatives.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize common general surgical emergencies.
- Identify key clinical presentations or assessment findings suspicious for the most common emergencies needing surgery.
- Discuss pre-hospital management of patients potentially needing surgical intervention.
