Activity Description:

This is a virtual CME‐certified educational intervention designed to address the identified gaps in the care of patients with hip fracture. This virtual format allows for convenient access and thus reach a broad audience of medical professionals. Falls from ground level are one of the most common calls EMS respond to in their career.  A hip fracture may have little outward signs of concern for EMS or by the patient and range from benign to life-threatening. Through these activities, pre-hospital providers will attain evidence‐based knowledge for the recognition, evaluation and management despite visual evidence and promote improved chances of early recognition, treatment and outcome for patients suffering from a hip fracture.

Target Audience:

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistance, Residents, Medical Students, Emergency Medical Services

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the most susceptible populations and common activities leading to this injury
  • Using pre-hospital methods, identify and assess the femur and hip anatomy defined for this fracture type
  • Apply this knowledge by discussing management and complications through case study presentations, from pre-hospital presentation to post-operative course

Moderator:

Dr. Brian Larkin, MD - Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Ashley Mull, MD - Emergency Medicine Physician
