Activity Description:
The lecture will discuss how growth and nutrition is monitored in a multidisciplinary team setting. This includes children both with and without feeding tubes. Information on supports and interventions that are utilized to identify and support feeding and swallowing skills will be provided. There will be additional discussion pertaining to how the Grow to Thrive feeding team supports pediatricians in the community.
Target Audience:
Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Pediatricians, Pediatric subspecialists, Pediatric radiotherapists, and other child health care professionals, Pharmacists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Respiratory Therapists, Dietitians, Athletic Trainers, Patient Care Facilitators and all other personnel involved in the care of the pediatric patient.
Learning Objectives:
- Explore monitoring growth and discuss intervening early if swallowing, nutrition, or GI concerns are identified.
- Describe management of G-tube, NG-tube, and/or oral feeding schedules, advancements, and recommendations.
- Identify additional supports from a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients are provided with adequate resources
- Determine interventions to help reduce and prevent hospital readmissions.
