STABLE Program 7th Edition Learner Course
Live In-Person Only
The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is designed for the period following resuscitation of the newborn or neonate until care is transferred to the neonatal transport team or members of the neonatal or pediatric ICU team. The S.T.A.B.L.E. curriculum includes detailed information on the assessment of both well and sick infants. The six assessment and care modules are organized using the S.T.A.B.L.E. mnemonic: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support for the family. A seventh module, Quality Improvement stresses the professional responsibility of evaluating and improving care provided to sick infants. Each clinical module (STABL) provides detailed information on clinical signs, problem recognition, laboratory data, complications that can occur, and specific care recommendations to address illnesses or conditions that may be encountered.
Target Audience
Any healthcare personnel providing care to maternal and neonatal patients: nurses, including direct bedside caregivers, advanced practice and transport nurses, residency and post-residency physicians, respiratory therapists, licensed practical nurses, pre-hospital providers (emergency medical technicians and paramedics), nursing and medical students, nursing assistants, corpsmen, and medics.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Organize this information using a mnemonic to assist with retention and recall of stabilization activities that are important for the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick infants.
- Improve patient care and safety for vulnerable infants by (a) standardizing processes and approach to care, (b) encouraging teamwork, (c) identifying areas where medical errors can and do occur, and (d) reducing and eliminating preventable adverse events
