This session will provide an updated overview of obesity diagnosis using current clinical criteria and terminology. It will address communication barriers, including the impact of bias and the importance of patient-centered language. The session will also review current evidence-based management strategies, including behavioral, pharmacologic, and surgical options available in 2025.

Target Audience: 

This course is designed for hospitalists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, allied health professionals, physicians and residents.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define obesity using updated clinical criteria, including changes in terminology and diagnostic frameworks introduced in recent guidelines.
  • Identify and address common communication barriers in discussing obesity with patients, including the role of bias, language, and patient-centered approaches.
  • Review current evidence-based strategies for obesity management, including behavioral, pharmacologic, and surgical options available in 2025.
